View Full Version : What can customs and homeland security officials ask when a US citizen

returns from a trip overseas? Can they ask what countries we've visited. who did we meet? etc..and are we obligated by law to answer their questions?

they will not ask you anything unless you look suspicious and if you stayed a little bit long out of the country.Also,if you are bringing in some stuff from overseas like foods,they will ask and inspect it.But in most cases if you're a US citizen coming back in America they dont usually question you, their main concern right now is those illegals and terrorist coming in the country

I believe they are trained on and provided with a set of questions, what answers to expect/look for, and how to deal with them. Try getting smart with or refusing to answer a customs official, HSO officer, or border patrol. I did, when I was younger. An ass kicking, strip search and nine hours later I got to leave - a sore and educated smart ass.

They can ask any question they seem fit. It`s for the countries safety and yours! From diseases to terrorism.
