I recommend the Blakemore Hotel. I stayed there last time I was in London, April 2005. Its a block away from Kensington Gardens, and its located in a quiet, lovely London neighbourhood, away from noise.

The Cambria House near the British Museum and Russell Square, in Bloomsbury. Run by the Salvation Army. If it is still there. Extremely reasonble prices; high security.

I prefer the Holiday Inn at Heathrow. Pool, sauna, buffet and a shuttle bus that runs about every 30 mins. to the airport. From the airport you can take the underground into city to make rail or bus connections.
