Poker has definitely experienced a resurgence in popularity, thanks in part to the tv show 'The World Poker Tour' and ESPN's coverage of the World Series of Poker.Like golf, it's a life long activity, and also like golf, there's usually betting involved.I'm going to say: Yes.
Yes. Like golf, you can spend a lifetime working on your game and still see room for improvement. Like golf, no matter what your skill, you can always have a bad day. Like golf, you can have games where you are on fire and nothing will stop you. Unlike golf, you don't have to wear funny clothes.

You could make some kind of comparison between the two but in the end you dont get any excersise from poker. And golf is down right boring!

A few more things need to evolve before poker becomes a sport like golf. One, players need to the ability to be sponsored fairly - and their sponsors must be in full-disclosure (no big backers that will convince them to throw a win). Second, poker needs more statistical data that can be archived such as win/loss ratios - perhaps dollar spent in buy-ins compared to dollars earned and other statistical data, and finally, poker needs an authoritative ranking system (somewhat like the college football's BCS system).
