Strange Design

Yesterday I toured an industrial building from the 1920's that served as an electricity generating plant before being closed down in the 70's. It was HUGE. I was allowed in because there were some apartments for rent next to it (the building itself was condemned and being fixed up as - bizarrely - a resort, hot tubs, palm trees and all. Talk about offending good taste. Anyway, I was being escorted around with my family, but peeled off for a bit. It was dark all over, with light coming in the yellowed windows and broken window panes. I heard a rustling overhead and looked up. Nothing. Then as I turned around, I looked again, and saw a tiny, whispy white feather descending from a high beam. A pidgeon's nest. My youngest sister ran up and caught it in her hands. So on one hand, there were lots of stairs and all, and it was dark and had lots of fiberglass. But it felt amazing, huge and gothic and strange. Has this this feeling- like being in a huge, amazing building- happened to you?

I guess the closest feeling I have shared to this is being in a super-long roadway tunnel. If you allow yourself to think about it you will feel as if you are buried alive; a very strange feeling.WK
