You want to think of hitting the ball before you hit the ground. If you are an average golfer, this might take some more practice. A good drill is to hit off of downhill lies. That will make you get your weight over to your left side more and force you to stay down and through, rather than back and scoop. Essentially it takes whacking many balls to get it right.

Practice and the right technique will get you to where you want to be...I try to keep my head very still and focus on the front side of the ball(side facing the target). Try to practice by taking short swings or short pitch shots and creat the divots by hitting down on the ball. Also, concentrate on the cocking and uncocking during the swing.Just more damn things to thing about during your swing!!!! But you still love the game!!!!

the above answers arent true, its not a different action, all you do to take a front divot is stand the same way, but when you address the ball move your hands a little forward, to the left side if your a right handed player, swing the same way, you'll be suprised at the front divots and the back spin.
