good tour routes to take around Europe? Going to London for the first time with husband and 2 kids. We are used to staying in hotels here in Australia that are at least 4 star. However the current exchange rate is very trying at the moment and we want to know what areas are safer to stay in, without blowing the budget. Want to find a route of travel to take throughout London and continue throughout Europe- Italy, France... We are interested in history and culture and dont care for shopping or malls at all. Although if a mall is a landmark then we would like to visit.Where should I go? All the info available is overwhelming and I would like to hear peoples experiences before planning.

We have spent touring holidays in France, from England. The best way we have found, provided you have the time, is to travel on the A roads, not the autoroutes. The A rosds will take you through the most amazing scenery, towns and villages. We have gone from Normandy right down to the Cote d' Azur and over to Corsica with our car. Also another route is from northern France sown to Languedoc region. Through Massif Central. Everywhere you look are beautiful views, scenery and places of interest.Just look at the areas you want to pass through. It's all there, Brittany, Dordogne, Loire, Charente Maritime, to name a few.Magnifique!!!As for London hotels. Travelodge are OK. Also look at Holiday Inn. These are usually clean and with pleasant staff. Not too expensive and with family rooms. As for France there are many budget hotels Ibis is one of them Here are a few links for you.Bon Voyage.

The best area for hotels in London is Russell Square, to my opinion. Really near to the British Library (your kids are gonna love it too). You can go to Scoobit.com, the hotel search engine at http://www.scoobit.com Switch the language to English, then fill the form with city name (London) and "Russell Square" as address. Then click on "Cerca hotel". I went to Mabledon Court Hotel, nice and clean place, but feel free to choose the hotel that best fits your needs. It's a safe website I've used many times so far, and you can book on line. You can use the link I gave you also to find a hotel in Paris. To nice hotels in Paris just go to at http://www.scoobit.com Switch the language to English and fill the city field with "Paris" get let the research begin.

to choose centrally located budget accommodation in London, I will suggest you to go through the list of hotels in London here :London hotels by tube stations:http://www.discountcityhotels.net/london-hotels-by-tube-stations.aspLondon hotels by location:http://www.discountcityhotels.net/london-hotels-by-location.aspYou can also choose from budget hotels here - http://www.discountcityhotels.net/london-hotels-by-categories.asp?pid=18Serviced apartment ( http://www.apartotels.com ) won't be a bad option even, you can compare the estimate of your choice of hotel with the serviced apartment and decide accordingly. If you find small difference in hotel and apartment, i will suggest to go for an apartment instead and you will find the difference.
