i've seen "Desire" and "Au Natural," but those both belong to resorts. Where can I go if I'm not staying at a resort?

Isla Mujeres has a topless beach on the northern side of the island. It's a 30 min. boat ride from Cancun and is an incredibly beautiful spot. Try scootering around the island too. Garafon is a scenic spot on the southern end.

Not exactly in cancun, but in playa del carmen. Ask any Taxi Driver, he can tell you.
